    2025 Cherry Blossom Forecast

    Japan Weather Association publishes forecasts of blooming and full bloom dates for cherry blossoms across Japan’s various regions.
    *Full bloom dates will be available from March 2025.

    Estimated blooming dates in spring 2025

    The latest forecast of the cherry blossom blooming dates announced by Japan Weather Association on March 12, 2025:

    Kagoshima (Kagoshima Prefecture) March 24th
    Fukuoka (Fukuoka Prefecture) March 23th
    Kochi (Kochi Prefecture) March 23rd
    Hiroshima (Hiroshima Prefecture) March 26th
    Osaka (Osaka Prefecture) March 26th
    Kyoto (Kyoto Prefecture) March 28th
    Nagoya (Aichi Prefecture) March 25th
    Tokyo (Tokyo Prefecture) March 22th
    Nagano (Nagano Prefecture) April 8th
    Niigata (Niigata Prefecture) April 7th
    Kanazawa (Ishikawa Prefecture) April 2nd
    Sendai (Miyagi Prefecture) April 3rd
    Akita (Akita Prefecture) April 15th
    Aomori (Aomori Prefecture) April 19th
    Sapporo (Hokkaido) April 25th
    Kushiro (Hokkaido) May 10th

    Comparing the 2025 predictions to the past blooming dates

    For 2025, the cherry blossom’s blooming is expected to roughly follow the yearly average blooming period in western Japan, while eastern and northern Japan will bloom closer to the average or earlier compared to normal years.

    This year’s blossoming season is expected to start in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture and Sukumo, Kochi Prefecture. For the sample trees in Tokyo, the blooming is expected to start from the 22nd of March, on the 23rd for Fukuoka, the 25th in Nagoya, and the 26th in Osaka.

    The wider area from Kyushu to Kanto is expected to be in bloom by the end of March.

    For the 2025 full bloom, it is expected to start roughly around the yearly average for western Japan, and close to the average or earlier in eastern and northern Japan compared to the trends of normal years.

    The wider area from Kyushu to southern Tohoku is expected to see a full bloom from the end of March to early April. Then from northern Tohoku, cherry blossoms will be in full bloom from mid to late April, while for parts of Hokkaido, the cherry blossom’s full bloom is expected to land around the Golden Week holidays in the beginning of May.
